AbstractDissections of specimens belonging to the family Soleidae show that they not differ from other Pleuronectiformes regarding their swim bladder. Contrary to observations in old anatomical descriptions, none of the adult studied soleids possesses this organ which regresses during or shortly after metamorphosis.
