Osteology of acanthomorphs

Osteology is the scientific study of bones, it is a part of anatomy.

In this section, we will examine the whole skeleton of an acanthomorph and then study the complexity of their cephalic skeleton.

In order to discover the different facets of the osteology of acanthomorphs, this one is exposed by two approaches:

- a practical one, by the discovery of the successive bones layers, as they appear during an osteological dissection. From superficial dermal bones to neurocranium, you will discover the multiple bones present in  the head of bluefin tuna (Thunnus thynnus, Scombridae).

- a more theorical one, by the study of the different osteological systems on the skeleton of the head of a common mackerel (Scomber scombrus, Scombridae).

Finally, the osteology of the neurocranium of other acanthomorph species (brill and swordfish) is exposed as well.
