Guillaume Lecointre

Guillaume Lecointre is a Researcher in systematics. His main concerns are interrelationships and classification of acanthomorph teleosteans and, at a smaller taxonomic scale, of peri-antarctic acanthomorph teleosteans. His main reflexion are on the fiability of phylogenies and the exports of the concepts and tools used in systematics to some other disciplines (such as Biochemistry and Comparative Musicology).

Associated with these activities, Guillaume Lecointre is improving the way of how Systematics and Evolution are taught in France; he is the author of  several books on this subject. As a scientist, he has worked ceaselessly to disseminate his knowledge to very different audiences, also focussing on prevention from the politico-religious manipulations of his research field. Several of his books address this issue.

Guillaume Lecointre is a Professor at the Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle, the Director of the Department "Systematics and Evolution" and is the leader of  the team "Phylogeny" in the Research unit "Systematics, Adaptation, Evolution" (UMR7138 UPMC-MNHN-IRD-CNRS, dir: Prof. Hervé Le Guyader).
