Bruno Chanet is mostly interested in the research of interrelationships on the basis of morpho-anatomical data (skeleton and soft anatomy). He worked on the relationships of flatfishes (Order Pleuronectiformes) but he is now involved in resolving the relationships of acanthomorph species.

The difficulties to obtain anatomical data for the alcohol preserved specimens present in the systematic collections led B. Chanet, in collaboration with Laboratoire of Comparative Anatomy of the Ecole Nationale Vétérinaire de Nantes, to define protocols for the study of the internal anatomy of these specimens using non invasive modern medical techniques, such as echographia and RMI : http://www.em-consulte.com/article/205946.
